When does the season start and end?

The first Woolies Blast session will begin in October and run until February - we'll create this schedule with you, the parents.

What about during school & Christmas holidays?

We don't run sessions during the primary school holiday periods but will confirm once the season fixture is released.

How long are the sessions?

The sessions will take one hour each Sunday, run by club coaches and parent volunteers.

What do we do in each session?

We'll run simple and easy games and activities to simulate core skills and match scenarios. The main objective is to have fun and meet new friends.

When do you run these sessions?

Each Sunday morning at 9am through the season.

What do we need to buy or bring?

We'll provide you with a Woolies top and hat. Kids can wear comfortable shoes/sneakers, and shorts.

Can parents volunteer or get involved?

Absolutely, we'll need the help of parents to run activities, coordinate the kids and have fun with your kids. Coaches will allocate roles to willing parents on the day or in advance.

U10 & U12 LEAGUE TEAMS

Girls & Boys, Age 8-12

Who coaches the teams? Are parents required to help?

Our coaches are international and local Deeners players with experience in teaching children. They all have a valid Working With Children's check. We always want parents to be involved if they are willing and able, but this is up to each coach and their team. However our experience is that kids love it when their parents get involved.

THURSDAY NIGHT TRAINING

When is training each week?

Training is on Thursdays each week from 5pm to 6pm at Hays Paddock. It is run by our senior players and coaches, using the cricket nets and junior equipment kits.

What do we need to bring to each training

Comfortable clothing is all that is required. However, for health reasons, each player must have their own box protector. No special shoes are required - simple sneakers are fine. Our great new range of Hays Paddock Deeners team tops and hats can be purchased at training or on game day. We do have a kit bag with bats, pads, gloves, balls etc, but we encourage kids to have their own equipment if they are able to do so. Don't forget the sunscreen, hat and water bottles!

SATURDAY GAME DAY

Where is our home ground and clubhouse?

Our home ground is at Hays Paddock, on Leason Street (off Kilby Road) in Kew East

Where are some of the other league teams?

We play against teams in Kew, Balwyn, Camberwell, Surrey Hills, Ashburton, Hawthorn, Richmond, etc.

What is the general format and rules for each game?

Each team bats for 20 overs. Each player gets an equal amount of balls to bowl and to bat against. Players rotate in the field to get a chance to try each fielding position.

When does the season run?

We run from October to February, and take a break over the school holidays.

How long is each game in duration?

Generally games run on Saturday mornings for around 2 hours. Starting times are typically around 8.30 or 9am.

What about the weather?

If heavy rain is anticipated or arrives, or the weather is too hot to play, the coaches will decide with parents to continue or cancel.

What role do coaches and parents play?

For each game, coaches lead the kids in their warmup and on field play. They'll also umpire the matches with the opposition coach. A team manager will help set up the equipment, scoring books and timing. Parents are required to help with setup, scoring, getting kids ready to play and bringing oranges, snacks and drinks.

What clothing does my child need?

Please purchase white cricket pants, a box protector (for health reasons) and simple sneakers for your child to wear. Our great new range of Hays Paddock Deeners team tops and hats can be purchased at training or on game day.

What equipment do I need to buy

We do have a kit bag with helmets, bats, pads, gloves, balls etc, but we encourage kids to have their own equipment if they are able to do so. For health reasons, all players must have their own protective box. Don't forget caps or wide brimmed hats, sunscreen and a water bottle.

How to have a great day

Get involved, support the coach and help the kids have fun. And bring a chair, sunscreen & the newspaper, and have a great morning in the sun! If you need a caffeine fix we have got you covered. Drinks and food can be purchased at the Hayshed Cafe in the pavillion.
